Rubin Kodheli, a fixture of the experimental sounds of Laurie Anderson and others, is celebrated for his adventurous compositions that ranges from the intimate chamber to the bombastic orchestral. The cellist and composer brings together two other like-minded sonic innovators, unbounded by musical genre, the drummer Brian Chase (Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs) and Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle), to generate a sound capable of opening up the heavens or creating an earthquake. It’s a sound with a jazz ethos, but one that mysteriously lives in a world of paradoxes — uncomfortably free or comfortably metal. The common thread that holds Kodheli’s band together is a deep simpatico shared among world-class improvisors.

A very interesting album. At a few places I keep asking myself: Was this composed by Arnold Schönberg (or his disciples)? Anyway, I'm all for skilled musicians exploring the boundary (if one exists) between jazz and classical. Thumbs up! jyrki63
